Bound
Bound is a typeface inspired by “The Courage to be Disliked” by Ichiro Kishimi”. The book is mainly about the philosophy of Alfred Adler, but shaped as a conversation between a philosopher and a student. Usually with philosphy books or readings, the writing is much more dense and abstract, I thought this way of framing his philopshy made it easier and more accessible for people to understand. I thought the book was very interesting and relatable.

I wanted to preserve the friendliness and open feeling of the conversation in Bound, while also having a fun twist to it. The typeface itself is a serif with bold strokes and has its signature notches that appear in the terminal and in the Capitals’ stroke. The notch represens the fun twist I find in philosophy.

Bound is also made to be very rounded to preserve the friendliness the text orginally give. The tilted axises in the counter is also another fun twist I decide to add to the typeface. Overall, Bound translate my feelings about the book into the typeface, it’s still a text typeface, still somewhat traditional and put having little twists and fun elements in the notches - similar to how the book is still on philosophy, but the delivery is non-traditional, friendlier and more interesting in my opinion.
